I have attempted to capture images that highlight this issue. I noticed the rod may have had a test installation of piston. This is the older Babbit bearing version which does not require replaceable shell bearings. I don't usually touch bearing surfaces unless have.
In this case I did feel the surface and it felt smooth, with no bumps or ridges. If you don't use this right away, it should look good for another 50 years. I see a discoloration in the wrist pin journal. I suspect the brass oxidized over time, and discolorations are because of an un-even application oil or inconsistency in alloy used to make bearing.
The crank pin journal looks quite good to me, and it doesn look like was test fit on the crankshaft end. Note that after evaluation any fingerprints would cause problems over time were wiped off with mineral spirits, then the whole rod was sprayed light oil, wrapped in a paper towel, wax paper, finally shrink wrap.
